Organizational Development

Organizational development — when done effectively — requires individual learning. This is one of the reasons Executive Coaching has captivated the corporate world.

We work with employees at all levels to become fully engaged in achieving organizational goals while at the same time they are given the opportunity to enhance their own managerial and leadership abilities. They are encouraged to continuously hone their knowledge and skills and at the same time become aware of how their attitudes and behaviors impact others.

Employees are the backbone to every business, so what happens if;

  • They are disengaged
  • Your top performers are looking for jobs elsewhere
  • You’re not sure if the job roles are compatible with employees
  • Work-Life Balance is a major issue for staff
  • Teams aren’t communicating productively
  • They lack necessary networking skills

The list goes on, but these are some of the most typical “people” related issues businesses face that are very difficult to address internally.

Are your top performers going to tell you;

  • They are looking for a company to replace you?
  • They don’t feel motivated to work harder?
  • The position they are in clashes with their typical personality style?

For these reasons and more, we have been there to help businesses fix the challenges that are too costly to ignore but are difficult to resolve on their own.

Our Organizational Development Method

The only way to effectively tackle work place improvement is to provide a customized solution capable of discovering and resolving the issues that are unique to your business and its staff.

We typically can divide our consulting engagement into four process steps that address the needs above.

1.  Workplace Assessments and Surveys:

We start each business engagement with comprehensive individual assessments to determine the motivators, behavioral style and the competencies of the senior team.  The assessments are detailed—often numbering 60 pages for each individual. To ensure the accuracy and understanding of the reports we include a “one-on-one” discovery session with one of our certified professional consultants.

The one-on-one sessions create some of the most positive and enlightening experiences for our clients. They come away with a deeper understanding of themselves, their managers, and their coworkers.  Most importantly, employees feel they are being heard and understood.

In addition to personal assessments, we conduct valuable surveys that help uncover engagement in the workplace, employee satisfaction, and comparisons between your company and the industry from the employees’ perspective.

These allow us to pinpoint specific problem areas, which, when resolved, can immediately start improving company retention, morale, and more.

2.  Analysis of Data:

Once the data is collected we run it through an analysis process that highlights areas of concern, areas you excel in, and even where the organization may differ from team to team, gender, leadership role, and more.

Because we run individual assessments we can validate concerns that show up in general populations (i.e. females are less engaged in the work place than males).

3.  Presentation of Data and Recommendations:

We present the data analysis to the leaders and teams and workshop action activities to address the recommendations. Business and team leaders come away with valuable information to help answer the issues they face in organizational development.

The analysis can help pinpoint the most efficient areas to approach a solution. For example, a serious issue may be companywide or it may turn out to stem from a specific department.

4.  Team Sessions:

Working to make changes at the team and individual level are the next part to organizational development.  Team Alignment is a program that quickly creates a common sense of purpose and shared commitment to action.

The biggest challenges when improving team alignment and integrating multiple teams arise from four different areas:

  • Lack of awareness of individual working preferences
  • Lack of clarity of purpose
  • Unclear ‘rules of the game’
  • Lack of a sense of belonging

In these sessions we provide transparency to the issues we are discovering. We ensure individuals know how to utilize their assessments to work more efficiently with each other and how to communicate more effectively with the team and leaders.

The benefits of this program are for both individuals and teams, giving them knowledge and confidence to work easily by creating shared, actionable commitments. The added benefit for companies is in ensuring the continuity of on-going operations and the rapid alignment of multiple groups for long-term success.

Aligning people in teams is about generating a deep understanding of the differences between all of us in the way we prefer to work and the way we make decisions or manage relationships. It’s about creating a common understanding, a common sense of purpose and a shared commitment to action. Our programs and interventions cut across what is irrelevant and focus on what can create a fast alignment, whether in M&A mode, during internal restructuring, or simply in the development of existing teams.

5.  Individual Coaching

Individual Coaching has become a popular management tool because it puts the emphasis where it belongs — on you. It is our belief that most people want to make a difference but often don’t know how. They desire optimal working relationships and want to meet corporate expectations, but often there is too little time to consider how one might address issues differently.

Today many executives are taking it upon themselves to hire their own Personal Executive Coach. Often times their companies will reimburse them. Their reasons vary. Perhaps they have picked up cues that indicate a need for refining their skills, or they may want to confront ineffective attitudes, or build a more productive team — but it is always about improving performance.

Our clients call on our executive coaches to work with both their high potential people and to assist those who need to bridge performance gaps. We employ a range of diagnostic tools to provide the person being coached with the insight and awareness needed to create a meaningful Personal Development Plan with measurable goals.
